The Zetter is a slick conversion in the reclaimed industrial district of Clerkenwell, known for its derelict printing presses & run-down warehouses.  Embodying London’s eastside renaissance, this previously derelict Victorian warehouse contrasts cutting edge design including state-of-the-art in-room entertainment for each of the 59 rooms & homely touches such as the hand-knitted covered hot-water bottles and the ironically flamboyant pink chandelier that greets you in the lobby.

Officially known as the Zetter Restaurant & Rooms, the ground floor is entirely devoted to the smartly designed Italian restaurant, enticing the locals & visitors alike, it’s no surprise that supermarket heir Mark Sainsbury is behind the renovations.  Working with Architects Chetwood Associates, who previously completed a sustainable Sainsbury’s supermarket in Greenwich, Mark Sainsbury has ensured the Zetter combines visionary architecture with innovative environmentally-responsible principles.

Using cold water from it’s own borehole, the near-forgotten London Aquifer, to absorb waste heat, saving space and electricity by eliminating the need for a massive central air-conditioning apparatus, and to flush waste water, reducing the demand on London’s clean drinking water. Access to pressurized water at a constant temperature also means less space need be given over to water storage, thus increasing the number of guest rooms, 59 including seven rooftop studios
