DESIGN CONCEPT

Shack 14 is a customised ‘SmartShax’. Described as ‘camping with doors’, these lightweight, environmental huts were originally designed by Glenn-Murcutt-trained architect, Ken Latona. and are ideally suited to the Australian coastal climate, and are particularly suitable for remote, isolated or difficult blocks.

The owners have added the luxuries of designer furniture and artworks from Burma & Australia, but Shack 14 is a place to reconnect – with your self, with the land, and with each other.

Some rental for Shack 14 is donated free of charge to the Otis Foundation, a regional charity providing places of retreat to women with breast cancer and their families or friends.  Visit their website at www.otisfoundation.org.au

ENVIRONMENTAL   Smart Shax are available off the shelf, and off the grid if required.  All you require is some land and planning permission.

You can generate your own power, compost your own waste, store your own water, and be totally environmentally self sufficient.

Shack 14 is a self-catering property sleeping 2 – 4.  No pets are allowed.  Children of all ages are welcome, but should remain supervised at all times.  All guests are asked to be sensitive to the fragile nature of bush living and to respect the property as a place of retreat and relaxation.

By choice, there is no telephone landline or television connection at Shack 14.  Mobile coverage is patchy at best.  The Shack supplies it own water, treats waste organically and uses green electricity supply.  Cooking and heating is by gas.   Cleaning and service washes can be arranged for extended stays; an extra charge will be incurred.  On site massage can also be organised.

LOCATION

Shack 14 is a separate and remote part of a larger property, Prospect House, situated at the end of a dirt track just outside of Chewton, a small village close to the popular Goldfields town of Castlemaine, an hour and a half out of Melbourne. Daylesford, Maldon and Bendigo are all within a 30 minute drive.  The property also directly borders Friars State Forest, with 1,000s of kilometres of little-visited walking, horseriding and mountain biking tracks.

Shack 14 is uniquely situated to take advantage of the region’s many pleasures: enjoy its great wine, food and markets, spoil yourself in its famous spa and massage centres, soak up its beautifully preserved history and natural beauty, or simply switch off and relax in the elegant comfort of your bushland retreat.
