DESIGN CONCEPT

Release was created by two friends who travelled the world in pursuit of a life less ordinary!  After searching the globe they discovered Wanaka and the perfect location to realise their vision to create a unique, contemporary and sustainable retreat offering one-off adventures.

The design had to maximise the stunning views while still providing guests with privacy and seclusion.

The brief was for the building to be anchored at the rear of the section and to give a sense of launching toward the stunning views of Lake Wanaka and the mountains of the Mt.Aspiring National Park.

The goal from the outset was to have the visitors mesmerised and drawn towards the view as soon as they entered the retreat. Every room was to have a view.

The Release retreat is also an art gallery, displaying an exclusive range of interior and exterior work from New Zealand contemporary artists.  The property also features designer furniture and homewares by New Zealand companies.     ENVIRONMENTAL

The vision was to create a sustainable retreat, to last a lifetime, the following steps were taken during the design process to limit the environmental impact of the property.

-Passive solar design reducing the need for heating
-Energy efficient appliances
-Sensible use of space
-Solar hot water
-Storm water catchment
-Grey water irrigation systems
-Wool insulation
-Double-glazed, argon filled windows
-Native gardens

Eco cleaning products and supplies are use throughout the property:

-Ecco store cleaning product supplied
-Living Nature/ essence organic skin care products supplied
-Re-useable shopping bags

The owners of Release are also involved with a local tree regeneration programme to help ensure the stunning environment can be enjoyed, both now and in the future.
