DESIGN CONCEPT
Luna 2 Private Hotel has "touched down" on the prime beachfront of Seminyak in Bali, making waves of its own with its retro-modernist design - which stands in stark contrast to the ubiquitous "modern Bali" style seen elsewhere.
Named after the first spacecraft to reach the moon in the late 1950s, the Richard Neutra-inspired architecture is the launch pad for owner and interior designer Melanie Hall's James Bond-esque interiors - a feast of funky 60's inspired custom-designed furnishings, paired with nostalgic design classics and 21st-century innovation.
Melanie Hall, who collaborated on the design with US-based architect David Wahl of Wahl Architects, describes Luna2's style as “loosely funked-up modernism” – simultaneously nostalgic and fresh. In practice, this means a Bauhaus-like exterior of cool grey slabs and white lacquered rectangles and interiors filled with 60s-inspired furniture, Warhol prints, Pop Art paintings and scattered James Bond-esque finishes.
The culmination of this retro-inspired look is a gigantic Bisazza-tiled mosaic of Marilyn Monroe located at the bottom of the resort’s 20 metre swimming pool.

Extravagant to the last detail, Bisazza mosaics are featured throughout, even down to the base of the 20-metre pool, where Marilyn Monroe lies forever young in her renowned white dress. With just five bedrooms, Luna2 boasts supernaturally good service, within the privacy of a home.
Inherent to the property's success and at its helm is General Manager and Executive Chef Danny Drinkwater, with no less than 23 staff members to cater each guest's every whim. It's quite simply a dining and quaffing pleasure-dome with "lunafood" that's "out of this world".
