DESIGN CONCEPT

The design of Metropolitan Bangkok exposes the best of Bangkok: cool and comtemporary modern with oriental accents. The hotel is a calming haven amongst the bustling city outside, a perfect respite for any traveller.

The hotel includes some elegant, light flooded spaces that feature natural materials from local Thai sources. The feel is fresh, modern but warm, acknowledging local aesthetic and incorporating work from local cutting edge painter, Natee Utarit.

Whilst the hotel features 171 rooms, two restaurants, a bar, spa and all the trappings of larger hotels, it is interesting to note that the Metropolitan Bangkok won an award for Excellence for Boutique Hotel in the Thailand Tourism Awards.

Kathryn Kng, a Singapore-based interior design practice is responsible for the beautiful spaces, and has collaborated with Isometrix from London who specialise in architectural lighting projects.     ENVIRONMENT

Each property within the COMO Group has its own identity that reflects its location while respecting the environment and indigenous culture.  The architecture and design of each property has involved the use of local resources.

As well as their involvement in contemporary living concepts, the COMO Group also has philanthropic interests, managed by the COMO Foundation.

The Foundation leads the Group’s efforts in social investment, furthering its core commitment to diversity by celebrating individuality and entrepreneurship while recognising the richness of traditional culture.

Over the last five years, the COMO Foundation has supported local grassroots non-profit organisations that work to improve the lives of women and girls. Their focus is on women because they believe progress percolates through families. At the same time, encouraging a strong sense of community through local ownership, peer support, mentoring and collective decision-making. To date, grants from the foundation have enabled healthcare, income generation, skill development, education and craft preservation projects. There are no geographical limitations to the Foundation’s portfolio.
